So my comic, Peritale, is set to launch in 10 days (whoa!), but I bet you’re wondering what you’re gonna read while you anxiously await its launch date, hand delicately clutching your heart. You could always read some other chump’s webcomic, but that’s not what you want! You want prime Mari content, and you want it now! You have good taste and I respect that decision, which is why I’m gonna direct you to maricomics.com, a neat lil website with every short (and long-ish) comic I’ve ever drawn to date!
(Honestly, this compilation is long overdue)
The Well by the House on the Hill
Completed May 2015, The Well is a comic about ghosts and babysitters. It’s a sad little number, sure, but maybe that’s what you want! Maybe that’s what you need. If you’re into slow, deeply emotional stories with plenty of twists, turns and character exploration, with a little sprinkle of the supernatural for added flavour, mayhaps Check It Out.
This one’s an old one! My very first venture into The Webcomic scene, this is a short story about five girls with superpowers, who band together to form a magical girl group. It focuses less on the Beat Up The Monsters side of the story, as much as on the friendship and trust aspects, but who says they don’t go hand in hand as some point. It’s a bit clumsy, a bit rough around the edges, but it’s full of love and full of heart, from me to you.
“Mari those are way too long!!” I hear you! Who has time to read 80-100 page comics! Those are almost books! Books suck! Sometimes you just need something short and sweet, Here’s what I have for you:
From the SuperMahou era, PP was my first fully coloured comic. It’s about a thief with a heart of gold and princess who can’t leave her palace. Like SuperMahou, it’s clumsy and unpolished, but it’s sweet and Pretty Gay. That’s always a plus, at least for me.
A witch and a fairy talk about their eternal conflict between Good and Evil. Also they kiss. It’s cute, I promise.
The story of a single dad and his hero friend, and how in the end home is wherever you make it or something like that. I put a lot of feeling into this one, and I’ve been told it paid off. I always wanted to do a little prequel for these characters, maybe if enough people ask for one… :^O
If you’re not into sappy, purehearted stories, maybe this one’s the one for you! It’s a bit darker from my usual stuff, but not at all in a bad way. A dear friend described it once as “Utena meets Hannibal”. Honestly, I don’t know what to do with such high praise!
A very old, very short story I made for an anthology about ghosts. Arguably as sad as The Well. If it upsets you too much, read Carrots again.
Once again, you can check out all these comics at maricomics.com. And stay tuned for Peritale (peritale.com). It launches June 13th! Hoo hoo!
